Down With the King...Pens Win

Well could the season have started out any better for the Pittsburgh Penguins? What an amazing begining of the game with the banner raising. The only thing that would have made this complete would have been if John Barbaro would have been doing the PA announcing. Hearing him say Evgeni Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalkin would have just made my night.

I had chills and goosebumps the entire time reliving last season. I was actually at game seven in Detroit and it was amazing and this did it all the justice. What an amazing feeling.

Enough about that. It is now about this year. Last year at Mellon, defending champs. Everyone brings their best knowsing that we are the team to dethrown. The Penguins looked like they understood that tonight and really took it to the Rangers.

In the first period it was really all Penguins. They had chance after chance after chance and they finally cashed in on the power play. Boy does Sergei Gonchar make this team click. Gochar takes a pass from Go-Go and puts a great shot on net and Geno gets the redirect goal.

The second was really where the Penguins put the game away. Sid and TK would score goals 1:12 apart to make in 3-0 Penguins. As big as those goals were the biggest play came from MAF. Two on one, Vinny Prospal takes a pass with a wide open net and just gets absolutely robbed by Marc-Andre Fluery. Fluery might get 10-20 for that theft. What a save. That is waht big goalies do.

The Rangers threw up a few goals but I never really felt that they were in the game. They did play very well on the physical end of the game. They were throwing their bodies around and trying to throw the Penguins off their game but there was nothing that was going to prevent the Penguins from winning this game.

A big point of question coming into this season was how would the PK play without Gill and Scuds? They were two of the best PK men on the Pens bench last year. The Penguins killed three of the Rangers power play and never really had many opportunities. Great job by the specialties units tonight. PK was 3-3 and the power play was 1-1. Great night there.

Also so much for missing them too much. Go-Go chalked up two points tonight with two assists tonight in almost 19 minutes of play.

Another solid sign of the season is Sid is winnings more faceoffs. Tonight he won his first eight faceoffs and finished off winnings 13 of 20. For the game the Penguins split the faceoffs 50-50 so you can't really complain about that.

Jordan Staal also, once again, played a solid game. The Penguins third line is the best third line in hockey. TK had a goal, Cooke was hitting everything and Staal continued to build off of his solid preseason with an assist tonight and is everywhere.

Hold on everyone, Islanders in like three minutes. Taveres first game. Should be a circus. NY still hasn't sold out all their tickets.

Lets Go Pens
