7:30 PM, Mellon Arena, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Well, here we are. Game Day One. It seems like just yesterday we were skating around The Joe with the Cup listening to Kris Draper bitch about a hand shake line.
New year, same goal. The Penguins will raise the banner in the last season of the Mellon. What will this season bring? Well for one, we hope it brings another Cup. How fitting to send old lady Mellon out with a bang. Win that Cup on home ice. That is neither here nor there right now though.
Opening the season against an Atlantic division opponent, the New York Rangers. Sean Avery will be a scratch for tonight's game so we don't have to worry about that jobber. King Hendrik Lundqvist will be in net and he is a good one. The Pens have been able to get to him over the past couple of years, but if he gets into a groove it might be a long night.
That being said, the Penguins have two of the best players in the world. They can play some offense and they have the fire power to win this game. The key will be a fast start and making the Rangers uncomfortable. Get the capacity crowd into the game and it could be a very good night for the Penguins.
MAF will be in net tonight as the Penguins will go with these lines:
Almost the exact same as last year minus Talbot, Scuds and Gill. Looks good to me. Max will be out for a couple of months so we need to get used to that. I think the Penguins will be alright.
Marion Gaborik will probably be injured in his first shift. Just sayin.
Lets Go Pens
