Penguins Game Day 18 - vs. NJ Devils
The Penguins come into tonight's game slumping a little bit. They have lost their last three games and they have also lost another player in their loss to the Boston Bruins..
Brooks Orpik will be out two weeks with a "lower body injury".
Just add him to the list of players that are not playing. You know what though? It is not an excuse. This team can not look for excuses and has to realize that it is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Remember last year when people were laughing at the Penguins when they were outta the playoffs in February? I do. You know what month it is? November, and we are one of the top teams in the league. Everyone relax.
You know when thinking about it I would rather have a few guys out now, get a little rest, make sure they are ok and not rushing them back than to have them out in March and have to rush Tang, Geno, Sarge, and Talbot back to play for the playoffs.
The Penguins will welcome the Devils into the Igloo. They welcome Marty Brodeur and his 22-11 record at the Igloo. Not sure if he is going to get the start tonight but Brodeur made 31 saves last night in a 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks last night.
Brodeur and the Devils defense shut down the Penguins the last time they played. That was back in late October.
New Jersey is also reeling a little bit in the injury department. They will be missing Paul Martin, Jay Pandolfo, Johnny Oduya, Brian Rolston, and Rob Niedermayer. Niedermayer could be back tonight but no decision has been made.
The Devils are also 8-0-0 on the road and is two more road victories of tying the NHL record for best road start to start a season. I have a pretty decent feeling about the Penguins tonight. They haven't scored in seven periods and we do have some history in getting Marty yanked from games.
The Devils also bring one of the best player in the world to the ice tonight. He never gets mentioned but if there is one play I want on my team outside of Geno and Sid its Zach Parise. He is a beast and leads the team in goals (8), assists (11), and points (19). Keep him off the board and we should win. Book it.
The Penguins have recalled up Ben Lovejoy to be on the roster thanks to Brooks Orpik being on the shelf. From the lines you will see below I am not sure if he is going to play or not, but it is nice to have a guy like Lovejoy to be able to call up as an eighth defensemen. Not bad. Rather have Sarge and Tang but we have to make due.
The Penguins are not 0-23 since Geno left the lineup on the power play. A power play goal would be nice. I can't remember the last time we had a power play goal. Whatev. The sky isn't falling.
Here are the lines according to the Penguins website:
Uh Oh. Geno and Talbot have the black jerseys on. For those of you who don't know this means they can be hit in practice. That means they are one step closer to coming back into the lineup.
Enough talk, lets get it done.
