Penguins Game Day 63 - vs. Buffalo Sabres
The Penguins are finally back in action. The first game since February 14 against the Nashville Predators. The Penguins will face off against the Buffalo Sabres tonight at the Mellon Arena. In case you forgot the Penguins sit second in the Atlantic Division with a 36-22-4 record good for 76 points. Buffalo is not too shabby in his own right with 75 points and a 33-18-9 record.
We can't start without talking about the job our Olympians did in Vancouver. You all know what Sid did with his time, winning gold, hitting the game winning goal and breaking my heart. He is a Penguin now. That is behind me. MAF was also on that Canadian team, but did not see any time, only backing up once. He should be rested and ready to go for the stretch run.
Brooks Orpik was, as you know, on team USA and played amazing on the blue line. Sarge and Geno also played for team Russia and did a nice job.
There will be some ceremony for all the Olympians today before the game. Expect a standing o for them. I would also expect the Igloo will get pretty loud for Ryan Miller and if there is a USA chant that would be the icing on the cake.
That being said Miller will not be in net tonight, that is pretty obvious as they play the Washington Capitals tomorrow night. MAF will not be in net for the Penguins tonight, not really sure why, but HCDB said this was going to be a scheduled night off for MAF so whatever. Jay McKee will also not be in the lineup and Jordan Leopold will be. Here are the Penguins lineups thanks to the Penguins website:
We will find out what Leopold is all about.
This will be the final time these two teams will be meeting. The Penguins lead the series 2-1 and so far with the Penguins winning the last match up on February 1. They dropped a contest on December 29 when they blew a 3-0 lead to lose to the Sabres 4-3 at the HSBC Arena. The Pens won the first match up 2-1 on December 19 in an overtime.
The Penguins and Sabres met at the HSBC Center on December 19 which resulted in a 2-1 win for the Penguins in the shootout.
