This might have been one of the worst games of the year for the Pirates. Charlie Morton didn't have his best stuff tonight and got knocked around for seven runs (five earned) in only two innings of work. The Pirates didn't run the bases well and they didn't hit well either.
The five run first inning was bad enough, but the way it happened was infuriating to say the least. Baltimore got six hits in the first and only one of them was even close to resembling a hard hit ball. All five others were ground balls that just found a hole. In some respect I with that they would have just hit lasers all over the field. It might not have been as bad if Morton didn't give up two more the next inning. Just terrible overall.
The Pirates mustered five hits, three by McCutchen and scored two of their three runs on a Ronny Cedeno double. Baltimore, on the other hand, had 14 hits and capitalized on three Pirates errors. Like I said, nothing went right tonight.
I could go more in depth about this but it is really not worth it. Four game losing streak right now and still terrible in interleague play. What else is new. Tomorrow is a new day, I guess.
