Penguins Add Steve Sullivan
After missing out on Jaromir Jagr and losing Max Talbot and Mike Rupp to division rivals the Penguins got back on the board, signing the first players from the outside in Steve Sullivan. Sullivan, the former Nashville product, signed a one year deal with a cap hit of $1.5 million.
Sullivan only appreared in 44 games last season due to an injury and he also missed the entire 2007-08 season with a back injury. He scored 10 goals and had 12 assists in those 44 games at Nashville. From everyone that I have seen talk about Sullivan he is an amazing lockerroom guy and should fit in like a glove in Pittsburgh and should be a fan favorite this season.
Here is what Sullivan has done as a member of the NHL:
I think this is a pretty good sign for the Penguins. A one year deal and when you don't have a whole ton of money you have to make it work and I think that is what Ray Shero does. I think Sullivan can give the Penguins 50 points and possibly 20 goals and when you sit down and think about it that is probably what you were going to get from Jagr anyways. This is a gamble because Sullivan has had some obvious problems staying healthy but if he canstay healthy I think this will be a nice move for the Pens.
