Steelers Clinch Playoff Spot

While the Steelers didn’t play yet this week they were able to clinch a playoff berth with some losses by AFC teams around the league. At 10-3 the Steelers are the second team in the AFC to clinch a spot in the post season as Houston won the AFC South last week.

The Steelers had a few different scenarios to capture a playoff berth but they got in with a loss by Tennessee. The Titans were taken down by the Colts for Indianapolis’ first win of the season.

The Steelers are still in a situation where they can win the AFC North but they will need to win out the rest of their games and have the Ravens lose one more contest. The Steelers play at San Francisco, vs. St. Louis and at Cleveland to end the year while the Ravens are at San Diego, vs. Cleveland and at Cincinnati to finish the year. It is going to be up in the air but it should be a wild finish.

With one more win, or a Jets loss, the Steelers will at least be the number five seed with one the loss by Tennessee. This is a pretty big thing as it might set up the Steelers a little better in the divisional round if they are the five seed rather than the six seed as well as letting them play whoever wins the AFC West which it seems as if nobody wants to do.

Baltimore and New England can also clinch playoff spots with wins today or a combination of losses from other teams but as of now it is only the Steelers and Texans in the playoffs as of right now. It’s a great place to be.

This is the 27th playoff appearance for the Steelers and the eighth time since 2001 that they will be in the playoffs.
