After the Pirates 5-0 shutout win the club announced that Gerrit Cole will be leaving Altoona and be placed on the AAA Indianapolis Indians roster. It is a pretty surprising move after only throwing 59 innings.
Cole started 12 games for the Curve this season and posted a 2.90 ERA with a 60:23 K:BB and a 1.30 WHIP. So far in 2012 between A+ and AA Cole has thrown 126 innings with a 2.71 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He has 129 strikeouts and only 44 walks.
While this seems pretty quick to move Cole up to AAA this is a move that will bolster the Indians lineup that will more than likely lose a lot of arms to September call ups all while playing in the playoffs themselves. This isn't really all that surprising all things considered but it will be very interesting to see what Cole can do at the AAA level.
If I have anything else on this I will post it here.
