Over the past week and a half or so if you have watched a Pirates game you have, for the most part, been pretty disappointed with the play and the results. Tonight the Dodgers took the second game of the series by shutting out the Pirates 11-0. It wasn't pretty and it has been pretty frustrating and there really isn't much to say.
The Dodgers got the big inning in the fourth when they scored three runs to make it 4-0 and it was pretty much all over from there. If you watched the game the fourth inning was the inning you knew it was over. The Dodgers loaded the bases without hitting a ball out of the infield and it was all over from there.
Kevin Correia got the start tonight and wasn't very good. When you get into situations where you have runners on base and you need to get some "easy" outs and that just isn't what Correia is good at. He is a high pitch to contact guy and that just isn't ideal with how the game went. Oh yea, he's not very good either. Probably not going to be in the rotation come next time around as the Pirates are doing away with the six man rotation.
The offense wasn't very good and there isn't much to talk about in terms of the offense. Coming into the night they had scored the third most runs in the NL in August so this isn't the worst part of the game but on a whole the Pirates have struggled off and on during the past couple of weeks. Like I said, not the main problem but it was one tonight.
I am not going to get into the whole Chicken Little argument tonight because it is pointless. If you think the season is over then it's over. If you don't then that is cool too. The Pirates are still a half game up (at least) on the wild card contenders so there's that. Going into the year this was a fringe 73 win team and now they are "only" 12 games over .500 after play on August 14. Enjoy the ride. Every team has these stretches and it really sucks the Pirates have it right now but enjoy the ride.
