As I was typing up a post on FanGraphs doing an interview with Curve closer Victor Black the Pirates released that they will be promoting 2010 first round pick Jameson Taillon to AA Altoona.
Taillon will make his AA debut on Tuesday, August 21 when the team travels to Trenton.
Taillon pitched for the Pirates high A team this season and threw 125 innings where he posted a 3.82 ERA and a K:BB ratio of 98:37.
Taillon started the year off great as he gave up only six runs in his first seven starts which spanned over 36.2 innings but struggled pretty badly at the tail end of May into June. During that time period he gave up 29 runs over his next six starts. Recently Taillon has been good with a 2.14 ERA and a 23:9 K:BB ratio in his final six starts giving up only eight runs.
To be honest I am a little bit surprised with the move as the Curve season is really winding down and Taillon hasn't been dominating A+ but as I stated before Taillon has really been good over the past six starts. His overall line isn't going to wow you but it seems as if the Pirates think he has done enough to earn that spot. That Pirates are said to have promoted pitching prospects too slowing (which is not really true) so I guess you can say that he is "ready." I will say that him and Gerrit Cole in the same rotation will be fun going down the stretch run for the Curve.
