Penguins Game 9 Preview - @ Washington Capitals

Washington Capitals

12:30 p.m., Verizon Center, Washington, D.C.

The Last Penguins Game:
February 2, 2013 - Pittsburgh 5, New Jersey 1 [Recap]

The Penguins finally strung together a couple of good periods at home and got a pretty significant 5-1 run away victory over the New Jersey Devils and now the Penguins get to play on Super Bowl Sunday against the Capitals in DC. While the Capitals and Penguins have been a pretty hyped up rivalry over the past few years because of the Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin draw but the Capitals have been a mess the last couple of seasons with multiple coaches changes and big time problems in one or more parts of their game. This season they are off to a really slow start at 2-5-1 but they still have some high end talent that is able to take over games.

All told if the Penguins come out and play like they did yesterday against the Devils then I think they are going to be alright. Sidney Crosby took it upon himself to set the tone of the game and carried that through the entire game and the defense was suffocating as the Devils only had 16 shots on goal. The defense is still going to be on top of their game as Ovechkin has offensive weapons around him with Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Ribeiro they are still a threat, especially on the power play. Can't take a team like this lightly.

Tomas Vokoun will be in for what I assume is because he was a Capital last year and they traded him to the Penguins. Most coaches like to give players a start against former teams and with Marc Andre Fleury getting the win yesterday it only really makes sense to get Vokoun in there. He's been really good so far this season so you have to feel good about the Penguins chances.
