Pirates Game 19 Recap - Phillies 3, Pirates 2

-I think the saying goes that sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes it really sucks watching it when you lose. That pretty much was the game tonight for the Pirates. Now, it wasn't all that terrible but up against a kid that was making his first start ever you hoped to get a little more out of the offense and as the game went on you just had that feeling that things just weren't going to go right and they didn't.

-A.J. Burnett didn't have his best stuff at all. He tried to gut it out but he put himself behind the eight ball a little too often and while he only gave up a pair of earned runs he was only able to go five innings and threw over 100 pitches. He also didn't have his best stuff as he walked three hitters and his worst inning probably came in the fourth inning when he loaded the bases with no outs and nearly got out of hit but hit Jimmy Rollins with two outs. Wasn't bad but was far from good. Didn't seem like he had a feel for his pitches and just seemed off. Hard to put your finger on it but if you watched the game I think you understand what I mean.

-Russell Martin and Pedro Alvarez went deep today, so that was good. Both only hit solo home runs which kind of sucks but it is what it is.

-Travis Snider went hitless for the first time for the first time since April 10 when he was brought in as a pinch hitter. These things happen.

-The Pirates struck out 11 times tonight and didn't walk once. Not something that has been a huge problem for the Pirates but it was today. A few more base runners and things could have been a lot different.

-What sucked about this was that it was a winnable game and while you will lose games like that over the season it doesn't make it easy to see.

-Turn the page to tomorrow. Get a win.
