Pirates Game 36 Recap - Pirates 11, Mets 2

-The Pirates started off the day with a win in New York and the Penguins finished the job later in the night. Oh the sweep feels good.

-I got to watch exactly zero of this game because of work so I don't really have a lot of substance but it is great to see the Pirates bust out today.

-The Pirates have really struggled against some average at best pitchers recently but they came up against one today and pounded out 16 hits and got out in front early and never looked back. It was really refreshing to see and six different players had multiple hits.

-Jose Tabata had a really outstanding day. 4-for-5 total and now has a slash line of .279/.333/.426 which is surprising for a lot of people. At the beginning of the year I talked about how when you have a platoon you have two guys for one spot and when that happens you have zero guys for one spot. I was a bit wrong on that as the platoon option has worked really well across the board for the Pirates. Gaby Sanchez had a hit and scored a pair of runs today and Garrett Jones has been playing well so this isn't that bad. Obviously you don't want to have to platoon because it causes problems that having a consistent guy wouldn't bring up but if it is working then I am all for it. It is working right now.

-Today was Francisco Liriano's first start of the season and it really couldn't have gone better. He only went 5.1 innings but with a big lead there really wasn't a lot of importance to leave him out there for extra pitches so he was pulled. He was at 90 pitches but I assume normally he would have at least finished the sixth inning. He struck out nine hitters and gave up only a run and walked two hitters. Control was a huge problem with him in the past and this year he tweaked his motion and he had said that had helped him a ton. Though we can't take one start and take a ton from it in all his rehab starts he has kept his walks down and if he can do that he can have a huge impact (if healthy) in this rotation.

-The Pirates pitchers as a whole stuck out 16 Mets today. Yikes. The Mets aren't very good.

-Starling Marte with two more hits. This dude is starting to become scary good at the top of the lineup.

-The Pirates face Matt Harvey tomorrow who is one of the best in the game. Jeanmar Gomez goes against him. This should be interesting.
