Pirates Acquire Marlon Byrd and John Buck

I am out on the road traveling for work so this will be brief as my phone is not the easiest to go in depth with on a post.

Anyways today the Pirates acquired  outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck from the New York Mets. The Pirates gave up infielder Dilson Herrera and a player to be named later. Word is that the Pirates will also get cash back from the Mets to offset Buck's big time salary.

On the year Byrd is hitting .285/.330/.518 with 21 home runs and a .363 wOBA. Buck has not been very successful with a .215/.285/.367. Buck will be insurance and depth while Byrd will be starting in the outfield.

To be honest I am pretty shocked Byrd fell to the Pirates. Whole Jose Tabata has hit .300+ this month they needed more punch in right field.

Herrera is a nice player that is right around the top ten of the Pirates prospects but I think we all know this is a sellers market. The Pirates probably needed to make this move and even though Byrd (and Buck) are free agents at years end this is a deal I am more than OK with the team making. Herrera is most likely a second baseman and whole he profiles as an every day guy down the road the Pirates needed the move. It wasn't a "must make" move but for the price I am pretty happy with it.

Maybe more on this when I get home later tonight. Maybe not. Who knows.
