The Last Penguins Game
October 5, 2013 - Pittsburgh 4, Buffalo 1

The Penguins really couldn't have asked for a better start to the season. Sure, they haven't played a good team in either game but when you play those teams you need to take care of business and that is exactly what the Penguins have done. With a 3-0 win over New Jersey in the opener and a 4-1 win over Buffalo you couldn't really want for much more and they will get a test against a dark horse team in Carolina.

Carolina opened the year with a 3-2 overtime loss to Detroit before coming back and beating the hapless Philadelphia Flyers who fired Peter Laviolette today after three games. So, like I said I am not really sure what Carolina brings. Obviously they have some really talented players with Jordan Staal, Eric Staal, and Jeff Skinner. I am not sure that I trust this Hurricanes team but I don't think they are going to be a pushover.

The Penguins have been really good defensively and this has been without Kris Letang who still isn't back. They have given up only one goal through the first two games and they have only faced 49 total shots. Marc-Andre Fleury has been really good staying much more within himself that we have seen at times in the past. This certainly has something to do with the team defensive concept that has been really solid so far this year but at the same time I am not sure how much stock you put in holding off the Devils and Sabres off the scoreboard.

Sidney Crosby has been doing Sidney Crosby things as he has a pair of goals this season and if you had Matt Niskanen in your who will have the most points after two games poll then you are in luck! Also Craig Adams and Chuck Kobasew are in a tie with Crosby for the team lead. So, um, yea. It would be nice if guys like Evgeni Malkin joined the party but in time that will come. Hopefully it is tonight.
