Penguins Game 49 Recap - Florida 5, Pittsburgh 1

Woof. That was a rough game. The Penguins haven't played since last Wednesday and all the time off seems to have not really been that good for them. They were largely inconsistent tonight with some good stretches and much longer bad stretches. The Panthers are not a good team but used some really solid goaltending in order to get their first win in Pittsburgh since 2009.

I guess the good thing about the game today was that the Penguins got a lot of bodies back. Paul Marin, Chuck Kobasew, Jayson Megna, and James Neal were all back in the lineup. That is good. Martin and Megna have missed some extended time so you expected a little rust out of them but overall it looked like everyone on the ice hasn't played in some time. Just kinda ugly.

The best player on the ice was probably Evgeni Malkin. That is not really saying a whole lot since a lot of other players were pretty bad but in the early going Malkin was on fire but it was Scott Clemmensen who stole the show today as he stopped 35 of the 36 shots the Penguins threw at him.

James Neal was pretty good also, but again Clemmensen is better. Neal got some point blank looks earlier and when he gets as many good looks as he did tonight he usually buries at least one of them. Not tonight.

Matt Niskanen said it best though:

Back at it Wednesday.
